Devincet is a French design studio that happens to live in New York, or perhaps a New York studio that never stopped being French. Founded by Margot Roybier, the studio creates interiors in which each project develops its own vocabulary, shaped by the people who will live in it rather than by a signature style.

Margot Roybier has worked in New York for more than a decade, within some of the city’s most respected practices. At Messana O’Rorke, she developed an architectural approach to space, light and plan. With Yabu Pushelberg, she contributed to projects for Edition, Aman, Four Seasons and Printemps, where precision is expected at every scale. At Gachot, a studio known for moving freely between hospitality and residential work, she found the conviction that has guided her since: the most memorable spaces are the ones that are genuinely lived in.

A VOCABULARY FOR EACH PROJECT

Devincet has no house style. Each project begins with the people behind it: the way they live and receive, what they collect, the objects they hold onto and the places that have stayed with them. From these, the studio composes a vocabulary specific to the project. It might be a restrained set of materials, a palette, or a balance between pieces found and pieces made. That vocabulary is then carried through with consistency, from the plan to the smallest detail.

CRAFT AND COLLABORATION

Devincet works with artisans, makers and workshops selected for each project rather than out of habit. Craft is not treated as ornament. It is the most direct way of giving an idea its form, and of giving a space the kind of depth that only comes from the hand.

BETWEEN PARIS AND NEW YORK

The studio’s sensibility draws on both sides of the Atlantic. From France comes an attention to proportion, patina and the quiet rituals of daily life, and from New York a sense of clarity and momentum. Devincet works in the space between the two: rigorous yet never cold, refined yet never precious.
